Invisalign Results : The End of My Journey
Time flies…when you are having fun. Or when you are getting older. This can be a good thing, or a bad thing depending on the situation.
When I found out I was getting Invisalign last August and my timeline would be around 6-7 months it seemed like the end was so far away. Now looking back, it seemed like yesterday that I first stopped foot into Dr. Liao’s Dental Associates of Lodi office for my consultation.
When I was younger, I had braces for years….YEARS. Close to 8 I want to say. I started way too young, switched orthodontists in the middle, and never wore my headgear. Needless to say I was far from the perfect patient. Once the day finally came to get my braces off - I think the exact words from my ortho were “Well this it the best it’s going to get so lets take them off” I was ecstatic. Of course being the naive teenager I was and sticking to my prior behaviors, I never wore my retainer.
Fast forward 20 years and my teeth had shifted back and were no longer straight. I was starting to get TMJ and I knew it was only a matter of time until I had to get my teeth fixed. I had been debating on whether or not to try Invisalign and finally pulled the trigger when I found the Dental Associates of Lodi.
You can refer to my earlier blog about the beginning process of my Invisalign journey, but this blog is really about the final result. Would I recommend Invisalign to anyone? YES 💯. I feel like Invisalign it the future of braces for all age brackets (given you are a candidate by your dentist or ortho). Would I do it again? Yes…although hopefully I won’t have to!
The process was so easy! During my entire time having Invisalign I had to go back to the office one time for a midway check up. Besides that, everything was done at home. I had all of my trays for the whole procedure and there was an app that reminded when it was time to change them. I was able to take them out to eat, which meant I could take a few hours a day to be sans trays!
The only time I felt any slight discomfort was the first day I started the treatment. I remember my mouth salivating uncontrollably. My teeth didn’t really hurt, my body was just adjusting to what would be my life for the next 6 months. This is normal when you first get Invisalign, but it quickly resides after a day or two.
After the initial adjustment, it was smooth sailing. Putting in new trays was a breeze. There were times when they felt a bit more snug than others, but nothing at all compared to the tightening of braces. I remember my teeth would be so sore with braces and there were days I couldn’t even eat. My lips would get all beat up from the braces themselves, and I would have to put wax on them to help my mouth heal. With Invisalign none of this was an issue.
It amazed me how I went from tray 1, to tray 13 in a blink of an eye. All of a sudden it was time for me to go in for my final checkup. Dr. Liao said everything looked great. His only suggestion was to even out a couple of my teeth to make them more symmetrical. The bonding process took less than an hour, and it was completely painless. When I was done I couldn’t believe the transformation.
I just recently got my retainers (I promise I will wear them this time!). I received 4 which should last me about 4 years, and I only have to wear them at night.
For anyone considering Invisalign, my recommendation would be don’t wait! You will be amazed at how easy it is to enhance your smile! The Dental Associates of Lodi team and Dr. Liao were AMAZING. They were friendly and professional and always made me feel welcome. If I ever had any questions or concerns Dr. Liao always got back to me immediately! They offer free Invisalign consulations at their office. You can check out their website here or call them at 862-247-8030.
Another chapter closed, this time with a brighter and straighter smile!
