Chicken Shawarma

Sometimes you just feel like some Middle Eastern food...am I right?  But it can be hard to find the right recipe that really hits the nail on the head.  Cue to Plated's Chicken Shawarma with tomato, cucumber, and tahini.

This dish features one star and focus...warm, toasty naan bread topped with marinated chicken, sautéed onions, and a cucumber tomato salad drizzled with a garlic tahini sauce (or keep on the side for dipping).  Pick it up and eat it like a gyro, or grab a fork and knife and dig in.

This was the second time making this meal since I enjoyed it so much the first time.  It has the perfect blend of spice (cayenne, cumin, paprika, and turmeric) balanced with the sweetness of cherry tomatoes.  The cucumber gives it a nice crunch compared to the softer textures of the sautéed onions and the marinated chicken.  And what is so great about this meal is that not only is it super easy to make, but it has three veggies in it!  #Ifeelhealthy

Before I post the recipe below I am going to throw out some pointers for anyone who is going to try this out.

*First off plated's ingredients come packed in a bag.  I always take out all of the ingredients and  keep the bag next to me as I am cooking to use as a mini garbage bag.  It makes clean up much faster and easier.

*With this recipe you have the option to toast the naan in the oven or in a large pan on top of the stove.  I wrapped my naan in foil, placed it in the oven at 400 degrees for 8 minutes and then turned the oven off but kept the naan in until dinner was ready.  This kept it nice and warm until I was ready to use it.

*Tahini is the paste made from ground sesame seeds that is typically found in hummus.  When you are making the tahini sauce, make sure you are squeezing the lemons either face up in your hand to catch any seeds, or over a strainer to avoid having to dig them out of your sauce.  Adjust the water added to the tahini to make it as thick or as thin as you would like.

*In this chicken dish, the chicken remains soft and moist.  Don't expect to see a brown crust after cooking.  Just make sure the chicken is no longer pink on the inside.

*Have fun with your assembly.  Create your masterpiece anyway you wish...all the flavors meld so well together!

<3 P.S. My husband is allergic to tomatoes so I just omitted them in the salad, made his plate and then tossed the tomatoes in with the cucumbers for mine.  He still loved it!
