Sisterly Love
It’s been a pretty lazy Saturday morning. I’m exhausted per usual. Ryker actually slept better last night, but my husband and his ability to sleep quietly (love you babe) is a different story. Needless to say after a night of moving from bed to couch to bed, has left me a little groggy.
But as I sit here drinking my decaf coffee (I can’t wait until I’m done breast feeding so I can finally enjoy some caffeine!) I have the time to observe and reflect on my family. Ryker woke up at 6:40 today…and as I heard him stir I also heard another set of footsteps enter into his room. When I finally mustered up the energy to get myself up and out of bed to do the morning rituals of a diaper change and breakfast, I walked in on not only Ryker, but his sister, cuddled up in his crib.
We are a blended family. I have an eleven year old step-daughter (Ava), and like any family, there is always the wonder of how the dynamics will play out when a little one enters the scene. I had my concerns. Would she love him? Would she be a good role model? Would she embrace him and be there for him? Would she be jealous or frustrated and take it out on him?
Over these past nine months of Ryker’s life I can gladly say that he has been blessed with the best big sister. It warms my heart to see Ryker’s face light up whenever she walks into a room, to hear him giggle watching her dance around, and to see them snuggle on the couch together.
Ava is constantly wanting to hold him, to play with him, and to watch over him. Not only is she a great helper to me (yay downtime!) but she is a great helper to him. Being an only child, I never knew the love and bonds of a sibling. But watching these two together I can understand how special these relationships truly are.
I can only imagine in a few years when Ryker gets scared that he would run into her bedroom for comfort and a late night hug. ***Hopefully Ava won’t be too cool of a teenager by then for her little bro***
We are truly blessed. And I know Ryker has something special because of his sister. Thank you Aves…for being the loving, caring, best big sister anyone could ever ask for.
